PAX RTS Cocoon – light – EMS

The PAX Cocoon – light – EMS is a medical device developed for use in emergency medical services and disaster response, designed for the temporary accommodation, care and transport of patients. The system is intended for single use.

The design of the PAX Cocoon – light – EMS is based on a combination of functional materials, including the reflective PAX-Rip Tec Alu. This material can help to reduce heat loss in the patient by retaining some of the body’s own heat. The interior also features an integrated aluderm® wound dressing and an absorbent layer to absorb fluids. This is designed to absorb blood and other bodily fluids and bind them within the material structure, thereby reducing the risk of recontamination.

For practical use, the system features a total of eight handles, which support the coordinated and gentlest possible rescue and repositioning of the patient. Zips on both sides allow access to the patient as required by the situation, for example to carry out medical procedures or monitor vital signs, without it being absolutely necessary to reposition the patient completely.


The PAX Cocoon – light – EMS can be fully opened if necessary to allow for comprehensive care. At the same time, the design allows the patient to remain in the system throughout various stages of care, provided this is medically and organisationally appropriate.

In terms of logistics and mission preparation, the PAX Cocoon – light – EMS can be vacuum-packed and reduced to a small pack size. This enables space-saving storage and integration into existing transport and rucksack systems. Despite its low weight, the product is designed to withstand loads of up to 250 kg.

An integrated hood can help to provide additional protection for the head area against heat loss. Furthermore, a transparent document pocket is provided, allowing patient-related documents to be carried on the system.

The PAX Cocoon – light – EMS is designed as a Class 1 medical device for single use and complies with the applicable requirements of the DIN EN 1865-1 standard.
