PAX vacuum splints – ergonomic for patients and emergency teams

In confined spaces and with patients in severe pain, every move counts. Our vacuum splints can be adjusted directly without major repositioning – without additional stress for the patient.
Whether for fractures, dislocations or severe bruising, the EPS bead filling distributes evenly around the injured limb during moulding. The air is then extracted using a suitable pump, and the splint hardens in the selected position. This creates a stable, pressure-free fixation that reduces pain and prevents movement. Painful movements or secondary injuries are specifically prevented.

Lightweight and easy to use

  • Minimal effort required for application and removal
  • Secure fixation even in confined spaces (e.g. vehicle rescue)
  • Practical, variable strap guides and buckles
Material and hygiene – for the highest rescue standards

Our vacuum splints are made from durable, resistant materials. The surface is easy to clean and can be disinfected – ideal for daily use. The closed-pore surfaces and the absence of Velcro systems in particular ensure better hygiene. The splints can be stored compactly in transport bags and thus remain ready for use at all times.

Individual labelling possible

To ensure that no equipment is ‘lost’: on request, we can label your PAX vacuum splints with a logo, text or organisational identification – using a format template and permanently welded or with customer-specific cards.

Repair instead of replacement – PAX repair service

Damage after use or transport? We offer special repair stickers for minor leaks. For more serious problems, our certified repair service ensures that your vacuum rails are repaired in accordance with regulations – quickly, sustainably and in compliance with MDR.

Questions about vacuum rails
What are vacuum rails used for?

Vacuum splints are used to gently and securely stabilise injured arms and legs. They are primarily used in cases of suspected fractures, dislocations or severe bruising to prevent painful movements and further damage to tissue. By removing the air, the splint adapts precisely to the shape of the body and hardens, keeping the limb stable and immobilised during transport without exerting pressure at any specific points.

How do vacuum rails work?

Inside are fine EPS beads that can be distributed freely. When the splint is placed around the affected limb and the air is then sucked out, the layers contract and the material becomes firm. In this way, the splint takes on the anatomical shape of the patient and keeps it stable.
The big advantage: fixation is gentle and covers a large area – without hard edges or pressure points.

What distinguishes vacuum splints from conventional support splints?

Traditional splints are often made of rigid materials. Although these can stabilise the limb, they offer only limited adjustment options and may cause pressure pain.
Vacuum splints, on the other hand:

  • mould themselves precisely to the injured limb
  • distribute pressure evenly
  • prevent unwanted movement without additional tension or pressure
  • remain comfortable even during longer transport journeys

This makes them particularly suitable for emergencies and transport by the emergency services.

Can vacuum splints be left in place during MRI or X-ray examinations?

Yes. PAX vacuum splints are made of non-metallic materials and can usually remain on the patient during radiological examinations. This means that no repositioning is necessary – a major advantage, especially in cases of severe pain or unstable fractures. Nevertheless, the approval of the respective diagnostic device should be observed before each examination.

How are PAX vacuum rails cleaned and disinfected?

After use, the air is extracted so that the splint is flat and easy to handle. Then:

  1. Remove coarse dirt.
  2. Clean the surface with a mild detergent and warm water.
  3. Wipe with an approved disinfectant.
Allow to dry without direct heat or UV radiation.

The smooth, robust material surface makes hygienic preparation considerably easier.

Are there different sizes or sets?

Yes, PAX vacuum splints are available in several sizes to provide optimal care for different areas of the body – e.g. separate splints for the arm, forearm and leg. Sets containing several splints and matching transport bags are also available. This allows rescue teams to respond flexibly to the respective injury at any time.

Can vacuum rails be repaired?

Minor damage can be repaired using an MDR-compliant repair kit, provided it falls within the permissible range. For more severe damage or seam defects, we recommend the PAX repair service, which professionally inspects the splints and restores them in accordance with the applicable medical device regulations.
This is more sustainable and economical than a complete replacement.
