The PAX Warming blanket - THX is an important component of an active hypothermia prevention strategy to increase patient comfort and prevent hypothermia in the pre-hospital phase.

A low body temperature is not only very unpleasant for the patient, but can also lead to serious physiological changes in blood coagulation, oxygen consumption and the cardiovascular system:

- Cold shivering > Increase in oxygen demand
- Reduction in enzyme activity > Reduction in blood clotting
- Electrolyte shifts > Cardiac arrhythmia up to cardiac arrest
- Reduced brain activity > Clouding of consciousness up to unconsciousness
- Circulatory disorders due to vasoconstriction
- Respiratory disorders, pulmonary oedema up to respiratory arrest

A disruption of thermoregulation, which is still very common in pre-hospital emergency operations, further worsens the patient's condition in addition to the direct effects of their injury or illness.

Suitable temperature management measures, with passive heat conservation and moderate active heat supply, prevents or at least greatly reduces additional stress on the patient.

The central, trunk-emphasised heat supply of the PAX Warming blanket - THX, via the patient's thorax area, reduces the risk of redistribution of cold shell blood to the body core (afterdrop). By applying heat to the chest, the underlying thoracic organs are warmed and heat is distributed naturally and physiologically through the blood circulation.

The innovative PAX temperature management system with PAX Warming blanket - THX and PAX Power Pack is immediately ready for use and can be safely stowed away in the functional bag for transport.

Near-patient thermosensors, double-fused circuit breakers and the integrated control unit of the PAX Power Pack guarantee a safe, quickly available and uniform surface temperature of the PAX Warming blanket - THX.

The compact PAX Power Pack enables the PAX temperature management system to be used highly mobile, mains-independently and guarantees a long operating time of several hours.

The ultrasonic welded outer shell, made of certified PAX Flex-Tec MP material, provides additional protection for the robust heating element of the PAX Warming blanket - THX and enables quick reprocessing by hygienic wipe disinfection with the most commonly used surface disinfectants.

Note on the operating time

The length of the possible operating time is highly dependent on the application and ambient conditions.

If the PAX Warming Blanket - THX is used as intended on the patient (PAX Warming Blanket - THX on the patient's chest & covering the patient with a blanket), an equilibrium is established between the patients temperature and the PAX Warming blanket - THX. This leads to a reduction of the heating phases, resulting in savings in the available energy from the PAX Power Pack. In long-term application tests, operating times of up to 12 hours per 100% charge of the PAX Power Pack have been observed in this constellation, even at low ambient temperatures.
